Consulting services and project work involved extensive surveying field work, detailed engineering design, tender document preparation, pre-contract services, tendering, design of road sections and drainage structures, construction supervision and project management.
This one year road project was for Design and Supervision of the Construction of the 7 km Namitete-St Gabriel Road to bitumen standard. The initial activities includes on spot design of the existing road and bridge. The supervision of construction was for 12 months. Topographic surveys, materials investigation, engineering designs were done and drawings produced. This was done using latest Civil designer programme.
This is an on-going road project and entails supervision of the construction of the Lumbadzi- Dowa- Chezi road to bitumen standard. The initial pre-contract activities included review of existing drawings, design documentation, finalization of tender documents, developing of construction cost estimates, pre-tender conference, tender evaluation and assisting in contract award. The project is financed by the Malawi Government.
The Liwonde – Mangochi-Chiponde road was a bitumen standard road of 6.7m carriageway width with 1.5m shoulders on either side over a distance of 70km. The overall objective of the Government was to upgrade the Liwonde – Mangochi – Chiponde road to a regional transit route linking Malawi with Mozambique and Tanzania for the facilitation of regional and international trade. The consultant conducted Traffic Studies, Economic evaluation, Cost estimates, Economic Analysis, Economic evaluation and socio economic benefits among others. In order to obtain information required for the economic evaluation, these traffic surveys were undertaken, manual classified traffic count, Origin destination survey, Travel time survey and Axle load survey which was done in World Bank’s HDM4 Model program.
Malawi: Design Review and Supervision of Construction of the Lirangwe – Chingale- Machinga Road. : The services included design review and supervision of construction of the upgrading of the 62km road to Class II Bitumen Standard of 6.0m carriageway with 1.0m shoulders. The road which has several drainage challenges had five major designed bridges and not less than 40 box culverts. The Consultant conducted bridge sites drilling results analysis and bridge foundation and superstructure design review and/or additional design where the available designs were deemed inadequate. He also prepared a revised cost estimate for the bridges. He also reviewed the Environmental situation and Social Impact Assessment and come up with a revised Environmental Report.
Malawi: Design Review and Construction Supervision of Upgarding of Lilongwe Airport-Santhe and Kwanyanda-Kasiya Spur (S117/T342) Roads.
The project entails design review and construction supervision of a 95km road to Class II Bitumen Standard of 6.0m carriageway with 1.0m shoulders. The road works will comprise of earth works, a pavement with a naturally occurring gravel sub- base and a gravel base followed by a 40mm asphalt overlay, new concrete bridges across rivers and numerous smaller drainage structures, road furniture and markings will be done. The Consultant will ensure that works are carried out in accordance with the conditions, drawings and specifications and within the programme and budget for the construction contract.
Malawi: Design and Pre-tender Services of the Rural Roads Improvement under Agriculture Sector Wide Approach (ASWAP- SP):
The services on this project involved engineering design of 200 km of gravel road rehabilitation works and 60km of road upgrading works and associated pre-tender services. The consultant conducted all services and carried out all necessary investigations, which enabled him produce detailed engineering design, bill of quantities, confidential cost estimate and bidding documents.
